The functionality of the dock does exactly what I need it to do–but I am disappointed that I have the thinnest case made for an iPhone–and I must remove it from the dock prior to use. This is not practical for me, and I will now have to purchase a new one.

If your iPhone is not in a case, this doc is perfect.

I’m not taking any stars off of my review because the dock itself is great, even though the cord isn’t that great.

This is the 3G/3GS version of the 2G iPhone dock that came with the phone. The product isn’t really up for review here; the price is the big feature. < $15 for the dock (and a cord) is a great deal. Although the cord isn't the greatest (not the Apple version, and definitely not a Belkin) its okay. Works fine enough for the dock, but I'm using the cord that came with it. I have a 2G iPhone, iPod Classic, and iPod Nano, so I have plenty of alternative cords to use with it.

One thing to note is you cannot use a standard case with this dock. There are “slider” cases that feature a removable bottom section for use in a dock like this. I am considering one of those. Other people say to get the other “universal” dock (the one with the IR sensor and video out) but two people I know use them with their iPhone 3G and 3GS and don’t like it (although it will fit a case). This one is a much slimmer and simpler dock that fits nice on my desk. The smaller footprint works better for me.

I’m considering a 2nd one to install in my car (maybe glue it to my dash). The angle is perfect for Google Maps and the iPod features.

I have an iPhone 3GS with a VERY thin case (0.7mm thick). Unfortunately, there is no room for even a case that thin.

Pros: very small profile (width of iPhone X less than 1.5″ deep), clean design (looks like an OEM Apple product), good price, line out feature is nice, rubber grip bottom.

Cons: have to take off case to dock, could be heavier so doesn’t move around or tilt as easily.

If you don’t use a protective case and want a dock to hook up to a stereo or as a night stand – get it!

If you use a protective case and would be annoyed by taking off the case – don’t get it.
